Remember back in March or April when our minds were all aflutter with thoughts of the wonderful home projects we wanted to accomplish this summer? Maybe we were thinking of adding some lovely decorative vinyl shutters to give our façade a little pick me up. Or possibly we were going to finally rip out those old cracked basement windows and replace them with glass blocks. There may have been a little mention of once-and-for-all removing that decaying wood heap we try to pass off as a railing system, adding an adequate gable vent to allow proper airflow (thereby reducing cooling costs), or finally wrapping those less-than-attractive post with a pvc column wraps?
Did you get all of that stuff done? Did you get any of that stuff done? Yeah, I didn’t either. But it’s not too late! We still have 1 whole official month left for summer 2009. So what are you waiting for? There’s no time like right now to commit to getting at least one thing off of your “to-do” list. For me, it’s going to be shutters. What’s it going to be for you?

For the third year in a row, Fypon®, the leading manufacturer of urethane and PVC millwork products, has achieved three separate #1 brand rankings in the 2009 Brand Use Study sponsored by Builder magazine. Fypon was ranked highest in Brand Familiarity, Brand Used in the Past Two Years and Brand Used Most survey results in the Interior Decorative Trim/Mouldings/Columns category. “These impressive results show that builders rely on Fypon urethane and PVC column wraps to add lasting value to their projects,” says Tom Riscili, president of Fypon. “Year after year award-winning Fypon products enhance the value of home interiors and exteriors while saving job site labor costs for builders.”
According to Riscili, Fypon pieces are created with the clear, crisp details that builders appreciate. “Each piece is architecturally accurate and adds to the overall value of the home,” says Riscili. “Of equal importance, we ship the majority of our product orders in five days or less, allowing us to fulfill builder needs quickly.
The study, conducted by independent research company Readex Research, surveyed more than 10,000 readers of Builder magazine classified as “builder, builder-developer, or general contractor.” The sample represents more than 107,000 similarly classified readers of the magazine.
Conducted during the fourth quarter of 2008, the 2009 Brand Use study surveyed participants on various questions related to a wide field of building products. The study will be featured in the June 2009 issue of Builder magazine.

Fypon, the industry’s leading synthetic millwork supplier, now offers PVC Trim Profiles in a variety of popular styles. The smooth profiles, including crown, base cap, brick mould, drip cap, historic sill, quarter round, rake moulding, rams crown and Scotia cove mouldings come ready to use and easy to install.
Fypon PVC Trim Profiles, along with Fypon PVC Bead Board, Corners, Sheets and Boards, can be used for corner trim, fascia and soffit system applications, window and door casing, wainscoting and flat panel applications. Builders and remodelers can combine PVC products with urethane mouldings and decorative millwork in hybrid applications.
PVC Trim Profiles are superior to wood mouldings in many ways. These products may be placed directly against masonry without fear of decay or water absorption. They have no above-grade distance requirement and they will never rot. PVC Trim Profiles are impact- and moisture-resistant and do not have the potential to absorb water, making them an ideal long-term product for the interior or exterior of any project.
The new Fypon PVC Trim Profiles are available in a variety of sizes and styles in long, 16-foot lengths. The density and cell structure of the PVC allows the product to cut smoothly without chipping, making it the perfect material for routing and milling.
Fypon also offers a variety of PVC sheets, boards, bead board and corners with both smooth and woodgrain finishes for additional construction needs. All Fypon PVC products are covered by a Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Crown. Dentil. Cove. Fascia. Every day there are miles of urethane mouldings created by Fypon in more than 270 decorative profiles. Lightweight and durable, long lengths of urethane mouldings are faster and easier to install than built-up wood mouldings. And, urethane mouldings resist warping, rotting, mildew and insect infestations.
The advantages of using urethane mouldings in the home are endless. Crisp, clean lines are moulded into each piece, providing consistency that wood simply can’t offer. Urethane can be painted, faux finished or stained to complement a home’s interior. And, the incredible variety of profiles makes it simple to customize a different look for every room.
To match the needs of homeowners and building industry professionals, Fypon offers 60 different crown mouldings, 41 fascia profiles, 16 cove mouldings and more than 60 dentil mouldings, in addition to egg and dart, Florentine, beaded boards, art deco and casings.
In addition to “topping off a ceiling” with crown mouldings, you may want to consider chair rail, base board and base cap mouldings to finish the entire room. And, for people not wishing to work with complicated miter cutting, there are Miterless Crown Moulding System that involves straight cuts of mouldings attached to the wall that meet up with corner and dentil pieces for a fast, professional installation. Many mouldings are available in 8-, 12- and 16-foot lengths for ease of installation. Once installed, the closed cell structure of the high density synthetic materials prevents water penetration and absorption.
Fypon offers thousands of decorative millwork elements in a variety of architectural styles to enhance the interior and exterior of America’s homes. May we help you enhance yours?

A strange tag line maybe; but not too long ago a customer brought this to my attention in discussing the Fypon Trims and Mouldings. Woodpeckers love to go after wood because they can hear insects nestled deep within it. Polyurethane products do not attract insects because there is nothing yummy inside for them to munch on. If there are no insects inside then likewise there is nothing tasty for woodpeckers and other insect eaters to snack on. Please note, there have been rumors that a particular Fypon imitator makes “crinkle” sounds possibly leading birds do think they hear food. Your best bet is to never trust an imitator, always stick with Fypon.
Why else choose Fypon? The process of molding polyurethane allows for distinct lines and details that give you the true look of traditional wood, with virtually no maintenance required. No constant painting, no necessary sealing due to weather wear and tear. Going beyond traditional style, the molding process allows for much more intricate detailing than found on today’s pieced-together wood trims, corbels and brackets. Polyurethane molding also lends itself well to smooth lines such as in the Southwest collection of beams and shutters.
Whether your project calls for traditional, deco or modern design, Fypon low maintenance crossheads, trims, brackets and pilasters are the decorative millwork solution.

A Niche, Alcove, or sometimes even referred to as a Nook, whatever you choose to call it we all agree that it describe an exciting architectural accent that can add a classic look to room whether it be a foyer, study, formal living room, or bath. Their popularity as a decorative accent is credited to have most likely begun in the 1st Century, when decorative accents were not very plentiful, one would imagine. With the Fypon Niches a room update can be made with minimal effort.
Each Fypon Niche has a display shelf as part of the mold; which some brands offer as separate pieces. These polyurethane accents take up minimal depth in a wall but add major impact as a display area. These accept paint very well making them easy to customize with a solid color or your favorite faux painting technique. The Niches also come with cute shell tops or clean smooth tops to fit the room’s atmosphere, making them a focal point for any setting.

A gable vent is ideal for attic spaces to allow stagnant air, humidity and trapped heat to escape. But what about those who aren’t really in need of ventilation, who instead would just like the look of a gable vent on their home’s exterior. This could be the case if you have a bonus room or finished attic space where heating and air conditioning exists. In livable spaces a functional gable vent would not be needed. Luckily, Fypon offers all their stylish louvers in both functioning and non-functioning versions. A non-venting Fypon louver is a solid, one-piece urethane unit that does not allow air to pass through. Offered in the same designs as the functioning, the non-venting louvers create architectural interest to what would otherwise be a plain, ordinary gable space.

When most people think of Fypon or Polyurethane Millwork they think of Door Surrounds, Window Crossheads and Gable Vents; but Fypon Polyurethane Millwork is much more than that. It is a huge collection of classic and unique accents that can beatify both your interior and exterior all the while helping you set your home apart from the cookie cutter rest. The molding process of Polyurethane lends itself to a vast variety of highly detailed decorative items like brackets, corbels, dentil blocks and pediments. An improvement or design project no longer needs to be limited to the mundane; let your imagination run wild.
The standard features of Polyurethane Millwork, and the Fypon brand in particular are versatility, low maintenance, and splinter, moisture and insect resistance. Another great consideration with Fypon is that it is ready to be painted and does not require the long processes of sanding and priming that wood does. Starting off with an already smooth surface ensures an easier, less time consuming finishing; offering you more time to enjoy the beauty of your home, and less time working on it.
